This morning I attended the University Club Toastmasters as a guest speaker, and volunteered to serve as general evaluator.
The club is warm and welcoming. Anyone looking for a great way to start their Thursday morning in downtown Portland should consider attending/joining.
I wasn’t pleased with many aspects of my speech this morning, and I flailed about a bit as general evaluator, unused to their particular protocols.
In spite of that I enjoyed myself, and they were encouraging. I did receive excellent feedback on my speech, “The Long and Winding Road.” It wasn’t a bad speech,
and would recognized for its strengths and value. However, it didn’t meet the humor/entertainment expectations of the project I was completing.
On the other hand, I was privileged to hear a superior Ice Breaker speech by a new member of that club, Dianne. She used some marvelous phrases,
and painted a poignant picture of Christmases past, present, and hopeful for the future. And the Table Topics was very enjoyable, with many participants.
