At one of the writer’s workshops I attended recently one of the attendees offered this advice:
“Always open with dialogue.”
My personal experiences tell me it’s always a bad idea to use “always.” lol But I gave this a try. Let me know what you think of the following as the first words in an opening chapter.
“You can’t do that!”
“I just did.”
“Tell me you didn’t!” Pharrell pleaded. His eyes went wide. He shook his head back and forth. He stared hard at Kaylib, the hands on his hips pulling back his cyan lab coat.
“But I did. See?” Kaylib answered calmly. She pointed with her right hand to the ancient console standing sentinel in the workshop module. She didn’t seem contrite at all. She even allowed the corners of her mouth to turn up in a small smile.
