For the past two years I have successfully completed writing 50,000 words or more during the month of November, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). As many of you may know, my second book, "There Used To Be Magic," came out in July, four months earlier than originally planned, just a smidgeon later than targeted (I missed my intended June deadline). At one of the writer's workshops I attended recently one of the attendees offered this advice: "Always open with dialogue." My personal experiences tell me it's always a bad idea to use "always." lol But I gave this a try. Let me know what you think of the following as the first words in an opening chapter. (more…)
