Well, once again I missed my target for NaNoWriMo. I did get a little further on the next book, "Problems in Pairodice," the first of the sci-fi trilogy. Now I'm shopping for less fortunate families (we "adopted" a family at work), food to give to the food bank, and all the preps for our own family Christmas. An dealing with heavy rain and flooding in the Portland, OR, area; but our investment in a triple sump pump and superior drainage…

We had an Open House at Daylighters Toastmasters this morning. (Daylighters meets weekly, Wednesdays, 6:40 a.m. - 7:55 a.m., Cedar Hills Recreation Center; visitors welcome.) Our guest speaker, Susan Bender Phelps (OdysseyMentoring.com) gave an excellent presentation on networking, including a small exercise. Most of our members were there, and 10 guests! It seemed like everyone learned something valuable, as well as enjoying some networking, camaraderie and breakfast. I want to share an outstanding quote that Susan shared with us, from…

My books are now available at their first brick and mortar retail outlet? My books may now be purchased at Postal Works, on 185th NW. Why Postal Works? Not only are they a small business, and a local community business, but they have a nice little gift shop. I know the owner, and she is very pleasant. They offered me my first book signing. And they are easy to work with, as well as professional. Their website is http://www.postalworkspdx.com/. Stop…

I hope all of you that read this have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with good food, family and friends (maybe even football, to keep the alliteration going). For me, I thank the Lord for all the blessings in my life, including the ability to write and publish, and for all of my readers. Eat drink, watch, be merry, be safe . . . keep reading, and most of all, love!

I was reminded at Toastmasters this week of a familiar saying: The best way to have good friends is to first be a good friend. Hug, thank, or otherwise express appreciate for at least one of the friends in your life today.

I have been working furiously to get book 2 in the Arthe Awakening series out in June, as opposed to the originally scheduled release date of November, 2014. The writing and the editing is almost complete. There will need to be a few more book design changes, and the cover design is not yet done. The book will be out in early July at the latest, still four months ahead of the original date. Why? Because the fans that offered…

Even my dentist loved the book! Yesterday he talked about the characters, his favorites, and looking forward to the new book. He said I was "very imaginative," and my characters were "interesting and well developed." The release of the second book in the series, There Used to be Magic, has been pulled in to June instead of November BECAUSE OF ALL THE FAN SUPPORT! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I love the fact that you are all enjoying…

For anyone watching this page, my apologies for having entered the wrong dates for Gamestorm. I have corrected them now, reflecting the true dates of March 20-23. Gamestorm is being held at the Hilton in Vancouver, WA.\ I will have copies of my book there, and bookmarks, but I am not attending primarily as an author. I am attending primarily as a game designer, along with my design partner, Hugh Wright. We will be officially play testing one of our…

This morning I attended the University Club Toastmasters as a guest speaker, and volunteered to serve as general evaluator. The club is warm and welcoming. Anyone looking for a great way to start their Thursday morning in downtown Portland should consider attending/joining. I wasn't pleased with many aspects of my speech this morning, and I flailed about a bit as general evaluator, unused to their particular protocols. In spite of that I enjoyed myself, and they were encouraging. I did…
